Materials

Objects for touching, such as sandpaper, fur, wood, a block, a sponge, a zipper, etc.

Instructions

1. Ask the children to name each object.

2. Choose two children, one to put her hands behind her back and the other to select one ofthe objects and place it in the first child's hands. The challenge is to guess what the object iswithout looking and to think of a word to describe the object. You should encourage suchwords as fluffy, hard, scratchy, stretchy, etc.

3. Repeat the game with another pair of children.More to doGames: Extend the activity with an imagination game. Ask, "What do you imagine these wouldfeel like? Clouds? Dinosaur skin? Stars? Lava? Porcupines? Angel wings?" Make a list of possibleword choices, such as bumpy, soft, squishy, tickly, prickly, fluffy, etc.
