What to Do
1. On a rainy day (when there is no thunder or lightening), bundle the children into appropriate rain gear and take them on a rain walk. You may wish to take just a few children at a time.
2. Walk slowly and examine puddles, wet rocks and leaves, rain sliding down buildings, shiny objects, etc. Talk about how the rain feels on hands, faces, tongues and the sound rain makes when it hits hard or soft things. Look for animal hideaways.
3. Back inside, ask the children to talk about their walk using words that describe the feel and the sound of the rain. Write down their rain words.
More to do
Science: Collect wet rocks or other items and watch them as they dry.
