Materials

Trays or clean tabletop

Baby lotion (hypo-allergenic)Old combs, toothbrushes, frosting spreaders, paintbrushes, etc.

Instructions

1. Put the lotion onto the surface, about two table spoons (30 ml) per child.

2. Add any object that you might manipulate the lotion with.

3. Allow the children to use their hands to spread, draw and rub lotion on the tray surface or on their bodies.

4. Observe and talk about the texture, smell, sight, etc., while exploring takes place.

5. Add more lotion as it dries or gets absorbed into the children's skin.

6. Wash excess lotion off with soap and water after play is complete.

7. Clean the tabletop with dry paper towels and damp sponges. Trays may be washed in warm soapy water.
