Materials

1. Objects that are open and hollow or have open holes (sieve, colander, drinking

Instructions

1. Bring in or ask the children to bring in a few objects that are open and hollow or have open holes.
2. Let the children bring the objects outside and dip them into bubble solution. Encourage them to blow through the holes in the objects, wave them around, or hold them up to the wind to make bubbles. Ask questions such as, "Do some objects work better than others?" "Do square holes make square bubbles?"
3. Make your own bubble blowers. Use a hole punch to punch holes on a plastic lid, make rings out of wire or pipe cleaners, cut off the bottom of a paper cup, and so on.

More to do Art: Mix water, dish soap, and liquid tempera paint in bowls. Demonstrate how to lean over a bowl, insert a drinking straw, and blow gently to overflow the bowl with bubbles. Press a blank sheet of paper over the bubbles to create a bubble print. Add more colors.
More Art: Use the above mixture or commercial bubble solution mixed with food coloring to blow bubbles at paper hung on an easel or on a table to make bubble pictures. This makes pretty wrapping paper.
