Instructions

Draw a circle about the size of a paper plate on each piece of paper. Make
enough for each child to have one.
What to Do
1. Explain to the children that taking care of the Earth means taking care of the
plants, animals, land, and water. Today the children will make a stained glass
globe to hang in a window at home and remind them how beautiful the Earth
can be.
2. Give each child a sheet of paper and have them cut out the circle you
drew there.
3. Have the children use markers to decorate these globes with green land and
blue water.
4. Explain that they will make their paper transparent. Give each child a cotton
ball with vegetable oil on it. Have each child rub their drawing gently with the
oiled cotton. They can hold up their paper and see through it. Remember to
have them wash their hands.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* You will need spray cleaner to take the oil off the tables.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Are the children able to cut out individual circles?
* Are the children able to hold the markers properly and decorate their globes?
* Are the children able to oil their sheets of paper?
