Instructions

Make a line-leader chart, so the children can take turns leading the class
(the ants).
What to Do
1. Call the children to stand in line.
2. Explain that when ants find food,
they follow a scent trail from
home to the food and back home
again. Ants are very quiet.
3. Tell the children that they will
now act like ants, following the
leader down the trail. At the end
of the trail, they will reach their
destination (outdoor play, snack
area, art stations, and so on).
4. Have the line leader lead the group to this goal.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* If the children are still learning to walk in line, you may need to encourage
them as they move from one place to another. Celebrate a job well done by
singing "The Ants Go Marching" with the children.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Are the children able to wait in line?
* Are the children able to follow the line and lead the line?
