Instructions
* Locate some attractive and brightly colored insect pictures that are about
3" by 4".
* Laminate and cut off any sharp corners.
What to Do
1. Show the cards one at a time and ask the children to say the names of the
insects. Help the children if necessary.
2. Have the children repeat the names of the insects as you show the cards.
3. Spread the cards out face up on the floor or table.
4. Call out the name of an insect and the name of a child. This child runs to pick
up that card.
5. Continue with the remaining cards and children.
More To Do
* For a language exercise, display the cards and ask a child, "What insect do you
like?" The child chooses an insect card and says, "I like beetles. How about
you?" The children can learn to manage this simple dialogue/activity themselves.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* These versatile cards can also be backed with self-adhesive magnetic strips so
that they stick on a magnetic surface.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Can the children identify certain insects, when prompted?
* Do the children pick up the correct insect cards?
