Materials
- Several bags of colored leaves
- Short-handled rakes
- Plastic storage bags
- Permanent marker
Instructions
- Collect a few bags of autumn leaves. Spread the leaves around an outdoor area.
- Ask children to rake the leaves into a pile. Let the children jump into the pile and toss the leaves in the air, exploring how the leaves feel and sound.
- Give each child a plastic storage bag with his name written on it. Invite the children to collect leaves of different shapes and colors and put them in the bags.
- Discuss the different leaves and encourage the children to sort them according to size, shape, and color.
- If desired, let children glue their leaves to construction paper to create a collage or attach the leaves to a "tree" bulletin board.
