Children are born with their own optimism. They have a clarity and a simplicity that we can only wish for.

—Meshell Ndegeocello, singer and songwriter

Have you ever noticed that those around you will reflect your cheerfulness, positivity, enthusiasm, and optimism? Incredibly, you get to choose on any given day whether you will approach that day with pessimism or optimism. To consciously choose optimism is bold and brave. It seems so much easier to succumb to complaining, gossip, and negativity in the workplace. Amazingly, if you exude and expect optimism, it grows around you. You can provide the sunny seeds by reframing negatives into positives. See situations from all perspectives and hopefulness. Children come to us every day filled with bright hopes and a buoyancy in their step that we can only hope to capture.

In loving memory of Gryphon House author Leanne Grace, MEd, we are sharing pieces of her inspirational writing every Wednesday. Leanne was the director of professional development at Hildebrandt Learning Centers and a lifelong advocate for early childhood education.  She inspired the early childhood community to prepare children as lifelong learners with her ability to find the extraordinary in the ordinary. One person can make a difference, and Leanne did just that. She will be sorely missed.
