The end of THE END is the best place to begin THE END, because if you read THE END from the beginning of the beginning of THE END to the end of the end of THE END, you will arrive at the end of your rope. ―Lemony Snicket, The End
Honor the end of your day, giving it as much attention as the beginning. Children and families deserve your attention to goodbyes as well as to morning hellos. Remember that your role in reuniting families at the end of a busy day can send them home on a rocky road of tears and exhaustion or on a journey filled with songs and stories of a day spent in discovery. Yes, your days are exhausting, and your energy may be depleted, but take that deep breath and a big drink of water, and gift each family with a warm smile and story about their child’s day. After all, in every ending, there is a new beginning.
In loving memory of Gryphon House author Leanne Grace, MEd, we are sharing pieces of her inspirational writing every Wednesday. Leanne was the director of professional development at Hildebrandt Learning Centers and a lifelong advocate for early childhood education. She inspired the early childhood community to prepare children as lifelong learners with her ability to find the extraordinary in the ordinary. One person can make a difference, and Leanne did just that. She will be sorely missed.
