Wednesday Word: Common

If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. —Henry David Thoreau

Our education and experience provides us tools that instill competence and confidence in our work and decision making. What about our dreams, too often deferred or directed by others? Like many, I know the feeling of exhaustion from living a life torn in so many directions as I serve children, families (my own and others’), and friends. How do you measure success? For me, it is not measured in grand awards somewhere down the road. Rather, it is realized in day-to-day, hour-by-hour, moment-by-moment relationships with others.

In loving memory of Gryphon House author Leanne Grace, MEd, we are sharing pieces of her inspirational writing every Wednesday. Leanne was the director of professional development at Hildebrandt Learning Centers and a lifelong advocate for early childhood education.  She inspired the early childhood community to prepare children as lifelong learners with her ability to find the extraordinary in the ordinary. One person can make a difference, and Leanne did just that. She will be sorely missed.
