Every month of the year can now be celebrated with art and craft activities for toddlers, including the chilly month of February! Here are some fun snow day activities for toddlers that you and your child can do the next time you find yourself snowed in!
Clouds Bring Snow
Materials
- Pictures of clouds
- Gray finger paint
- Finger paint paper
- A stapler
- White curling ribbon
- 4” white doilies
- Glue
- White glitter
Craft
- Discuss types of clouds and where snow comes from. Show your child pictures of some clouds
- Cut the finger paint paper into cloud shapes approximately 12” x 15”
- Encourage your child to finger paint the clouds with the gray paint
- Once the clouds are dry, staple one end of each ribbon to a cloud and the other end to a doily
- Paint glue on the doilies and sprinkle them with glitter to make snowflakes
- Hang the clouds and snowflakes from the ceiling to make it look like it’s snowing indoors
Icicles
Materials
Craft
- Attach blue paper to the easel
- Squeeze the watered –down glue into an eyedropper and squeeze the glue onto the top of the blue paper
- Watch as the glue dribbles down the upright paper
- Sprinkle silver glitter on the dripped glue to create a picture of icicles!
Snip, Snip, Snowflake
Materials
Craft
- Show your child how to make snowflakes by folding a piece of paper several times and cutting designs into it
- Help your child make her own snowflake and decorate it with paint and glitter
- Hang the snowflakes from the ceiling
Snowflake Prints
Materials
- White and blue tempera paint
- Shallow containers
- Newspaper
- Paint smocks
- 12” x 18” construction paper in pale blue, gray, and black
- Snowflake cookie cutters in various sizes and designs
- Glitter in white, silver, and blue
Craft
- Pour white paint into two shallow containers and mix some blue in one of them to create a light blue color
- Cover the table with newspaper so that nothing gets messy! You and your child can wear smocks to protect your clothes
- Demonstrate dipping a cookie cutter into the paint and printing several snowflakes before dipping it into the paint again
- Encourage your child to use different cookie cutter shapes, construction paper, and paint colors to make the snowflake prints. She may overlap the colors and snowflakes, try to fit them inside one another, or just space them out evenly
- Shake some glitter on the design while it’s still wet to add a bit of sparkle!
Sock Snowmen
Materials
- Children’s white socks
- Pillow stuffing
- Rubber bands
- Pens
- Buttons
- White glue
Craft
- Take a white sock and stuff it with pillow stuffing
- Help your child put rubber bands in the middle and the top, making a two-ball snowman. Fold the top part down to make a little hat
- Let your child use the pens to draw a little face on the snowman. Help them color the hat as well
- Glue little buttons on the bottom ball of the snowman
- Repeat until you have as many snowmen as you want!
