The Power of Stories: A National Reading Month Reflection

March 1st, 2025 | 1 min. read

By Rebecca Berlin PhD.

March is National Reading Month, a time to celebrate the magic of books and the impact they have on young learners.

For educators and caregivers, reading is more than just an activity; it’s a foundation for success. Every time a teacher shares a story, or a parent reads aloud before bedtime, they are helping to shape a child’s understanding of the world. That’s why we are so passionate about publishing resources that support early literacy, equipping educators with research-based strategies and engaging books that make reading a joyful experience.

For me, reading has always been more than just words on a page—it’s about connection, tradition, and discovery.

One of my favorite childhood memories is reading Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs with my parents. That whimsical story about food falling from the sky sparked my imagination, and when I became a parent myself, I couldn’t wait to share it with my own children. Years later, I discovered Pickles to Pittsburgh, the sequel that was released when my kids were young, allowing us to experience a brand-new adventure together. It was a reminder that stories don’t just entertain us—they create bonds across generations.

As I reflect on the power of books this month, I’m currently reading Loose Parts Alive from Gryphon House, a book that beautifully highlights how nature plays a vital role in children’s learning. It’s inspiring me to look at the world through a child’s eyes—to see the wonder in a fallen leaf, the possibilities in a simple stick, and the endless learning opportunities that exist all around us.

At Gryphon House, we are honored to publish books that spark curiosity, nurture creativity, and support educators in fostering a love of reading.

This National Reading Month, I encourage you to revisit an old favorite, discover something new, and celebrate the educators and caregivers who bring stories to life for children every day.

Happy reading!
