New Resource Book Shows Early Educators How to Develop Spaces that Nurture Infants, Toddlers and Two-Year-Olds
Lewisville, N.C., June 30, 2021 – Classroom learning environments can have a huge impact on the ways children learn, develop skills, gain confidence, and make connections. Even for very young children – infants, toddlers, and two-year-olds – environments help shape their learning.
Enticing Environments for People Under Three, a new resource book written by Laura Wilhelm, EdD, shows educators how to strive to see people under three as intently as they see us. Wilhelm explores aspects of inviting, interesting, and intriguing environments and discusses ways to develop classroom spaces that nurture, support, and challenge infants, toddlers, and two-year-olds.

In addition to looking at grouping children by age and providing age-appropriate routines, the book considers ways to support language, physical, emotional and cognitive development.

Laura Wilhelm, EdD, is a professor in the department of Family Services and Child Development at Rose State College in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Over the past 25 years, Dr. Wilhelm has taught pre-K, kindergarten, and first and third grade; directed a laboratory school; and taught graduate and undergraduate courses for teachers, administrators, and child-care providers. Her current research interests include best classroom practice, nature literacy, and urban education.
