Emily Garman: Welcome to Early Childhood Chapters, a podcast from Griffin House Books. Bridging the gap between early childhood theory and real world practice. I'm your host, Emily Garman.
Laura Wilhelm: it's really about us stepping back and letting children have a wonderful idea, just presenting the materials and trusting them.
Andrew Roszak: Right, Preparedness can take you just a couple of minutes, right? Practice before the kids come in for the day. Do that lock down drill. Make sure you know how to secure your doors. Make sure you know how to barricade your doors. These are all things that you can personally own the risk on.
Emily Garman: I think Griffin House is unique in that it acknowledges those people saying, hey, I'm a teacher, I'm a school administrator, I'm a caregiver, I'm busy. I don't always have the bandwidth to read journal articles, and our books bring that information to those folks in a very accessible and practical way.
Jennifer Kesselring: if a child grows up knowing that their voice is important, that their ideas are important, and that they could and should be heard, then they grow into adults who know that their voice is important. Their actions are important, and their voice should be heard.
Carla Gull: We are part of nature and we are part of the natural environment around us and we can interact with it in a loose parks mindset in a respectful way that also allows us to explore and experiment and have that curiosity and wonder and awe.
Emily Garman: In each episode we connect you with leading experts, who break down the latest research into practical tips and strategies for the classroom and beyond.
Jerry Bates: Their day as an infant, a toddler or a two year old is just as important as my day.
Laura Wilhelm: maybe you feel like, oh, I don't really have nature because I don't have pine trees or I don't have a national park outside my playground. That's okay, because you do have nature. We are nature.
Emily Garman: And this podcast just takes that a step further, to bring actionable, useful information to the people on the ground, educating our children each day, because there's no more valuable job than that.
