Instructions

1. Select 10 children to be the elephants.

2. Set up 11 chairs one behind the other. Have the 10 "elephants" stand in a line near the chairs. Stand with them.

3. Invite the children to recite the following rhyme, having them move into their seats as the song suggests:Ten purple elephants standing in line,Waiting for bus number nine.The bus arrives and goes to the mall.Two get on, and that's all. (two elephants sit on the chairs)How many elephants are there now?Eight purple elephants standing in line,Waiting for bus number nine.The bus arrives and goes to the store,Four get on, but no more. (four elephants sit on the chairs)How many elephants are there now?Four purple elephants standing in line,Waiting for bus number nine.The bus arrives and goes to the zoo,Four get on, and I do, too! (remaining elephants and you sit on the chairs)Are there any elephants left?
