What to do
1. Give each child a sheet of paper and invite the children to create a blue fingerpainting. Let the
paintings dry overnight.
2. Pour yellow paint onto a paper plate or tray. Return the children's finger paintings to them.
3. Wet the sponges and wring out the excess water.
4. Have the children dip the sponges in the paint and apply the star and moon shapes to their
painting.
More to do
Dramatic play: Paint a sheet with star-shaped sponges and glow-in-the-dark paint, then turn off
the lights on a rainy day and climb under the sheet.
More art: Show the children a picture of Van Gogh's "Starry Night" and compare their paintings to
his. Use fingerpaints to create paintings of the planets in outer space. Create a starry mural for the
classroom wall or bulletin board.
