Instructions

What to do
1. Ahead of time, remove the bottom of each shoebox, if you choose, and replace it with thin
white paper. It is not necessary to remove the bottom of the box, but doing so will allow light
to filter through the box.
2. Let the children look through greeting cards and magazines and cut out pictures that represent
the Jewish holiday and traditions.
3. Distribute the shoeboxes and have the children glue the pictures to the inside of their box. Set
the boxes aside to dry.
4. Show the children how to glue three Popsicle sticks together, forming a triangular shape. Make
a second triangle with three more sticks. When you are done, glue the two triangles together to
form a star. Let the glue dry.
5. Afterward, ask the children to paint the star blue, then sprinkle glitter on the paint before it
dries. Set the stars aside again to dry.
6. Return the shoeboxes to the children and ask them to turn their box on its side.
7. Glue a piece of thread to the star and suspend it inside the shoebox.
8. Display the boxes throughout the classroom, then send them home for the families to enjoy
throughout the holidays.
