bingo shape card for each child with four different shapes on each, plus second card cut into four quarters
set of nine different shape cards scissors (adult only)Instructions
l Use a thick marker to divide blank cardstock into four quarters. Pass out two
divided cards to each child.
l Find or make pictures of shapes: square, circle, triangle, rectangle, diamond,
semi-circle, oval, star, moon, and so on. Put up the shape pictures where all
the children can see them.
What to Do
1. Tell the children that they are going to make their own boards for a game of
shape bingo.
2. Ask the children to choose four different shapes and then help the children
draw one of those shapes in each quarter of their papers. Help the children
cut a second sheet of cardstock into four blank pieces. These will cover the
shapes on their bingo cards.
3. Show the children the different shape pictures. Encourage the children to
identify each shape and see if they can match the shapes to those on their
bingo cards.
4. If a child has that shape on his bingo card, he should cover the shape with one
of the blank pieces of cardstock. The first child to cover his board is the winner
and can shout "Bingo!"
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children name all the shapes?
l Can the children draw the shapes or do they need templates?
l Can the children follow the rules of the game?
