Instructions

  1. Let the children take an active part in the preparation of their picnic food.
  2. In advance, prepare sequence cards for making a cheese sandwich and peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Put bread, peanut butter, jelly, mayonnaise, mustard, and cheese on a table.
  3. On the same table, place small plastic baggies, celery and carrot sticks, boxes of raisins, cookies, and juice boxes.
  4. Provide cards that indicate how many of each food item the children should take.
  5. After the children make their sandwiches and put the rest of the items in a lunch bag, help them write their name on the bag.
  6. Pack all the lunches in a large picnic basket. If it is nice outside, go outside and eat. If not, have a classroom picnic!

Note: Be aware of any food allergies to peanuts and plan accordingly.

Instructions

1. Cut out flower shapes from construction paper. Write a lowercase letter on
each flower shape. Glue each flower to a craft stick.
2. Invert the Styrofoam cups and label the side of each one with uppercase
letters that correspond to the letters written on the flowers.
3. Make a small slit in the top of each cup so that a flower (craft stick) will stand
in it.
4. Put the cups in the flower shop center. Be sure to invert the cups so the slit is
on top.
5. Encourage the children to look for the flowers with letters that match the
letters on the cups. Ask the children to put each flower in its correct "pot."
