Materials
- Tape player and tapes
- Pictures or small objects
What to do
1. Make a tape recording of noises with one theme. For example, make separate tapes of sounds made by zoo animals, farm animals, transportation sounds, sounds heard around the house, and outside noises.
2. At Circle Time, play a tape and encourage the children to identify the sounds. The children will love listening to see if they can guess the sounds.
3. If desired, show them pictures or small objects of the sounds on the tape. Give one to each child and when a child hears her sound, she stands up and shows her object. The child can also make the sound she hears.
4. The children can also act like the object or animal on the tape.
5. Be prepared for a lot of laughter!

Instructions
1. Cut out a 4" (10 cm) circle, square, triangle, and semi-circle from lightweight
cardboard.
2. Ask the children to sit crossed legged on the floor, forming a circle.
3. Select two children of similar height. Ask them to stand in the center of the
circle.
4. Ask the first child to close her eyes. Then, pin one of the shapes on the back
of the second child.
5. The first child opens her eyes and moves around within the circle to try and
see her opponent's back and the chosen shape.
6. The second child must move so that the first child cannot see the shape on
her back. This should be done without either of the children touching.
7. The game is over when the first child has successfully seen and named the
shape, or after three minutes have passed.
8. The two children sit back down in the circle. Select two more children to play.
More to do
Instead of shapes, use colors, letters, or numbers. Help the children cut out a
square, circle, triangle, and semi-circle from colored paper and glue each one to
a blank sheet of paper. Ask the children to name the shapes and encourage them
to try to write the word under the shape.
