Instructions

What to do
1. After a trip to the zoo or following the reading of a book about the zoo, ask the children to
decide which animals are their favorites.
2. Give the children colored toothpicks and small marshmallows, and invite them to create that
animal. They may need you to demonstrate how to connect the marshmallows with the toothpicks.
3. When they are finished, or at a later time such as snack time, invite the children to disassemble
their animal creations and enjoy eating the marshmallows.
More to do
Field trip: Take the children to a zoo or animal park.
More art: Give the children art supplies and invite them to create habitats for their animal creations.
Invite them to make other things besides animals from the marshmallows and toothpicks.
