Materials

8 to 10 hula hoops

Instructions

1. Hold up a hula hoop and have the
children identify and describe its
shape.
2. Arrange the hula hoops on the
ground so that they make a path.
The path can be straight, curved, Sshaped,
or circular.
3. Have each child line up at one end of the
path and jump into the first hula hoop. Then have
them jump into each hula hoop until
they complete
the path.
4. Once all the children have
had a chance to jump
through the hula-hoop path,
rearrange the hula hoops to create a new path.

l At the end of the outdoor play period, create a hula-hoop path that leads the
children back to the classroom.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children name the shape of the hula hoop?
l Can the children jump along the path from beginning to end?
