Materials

Balance beam

Instructions

  1. Choose five children to be the five little speckled frogs sitting on a speckled "log" (the balance beam).
  2. As you sing the song, touch each frog on the head when it is time for them to jump into the "pool." Specify that the children must leap like frogs leap as they leave the log.

    Eating some most delicious bugs. (yum yum).
    One jumped into the pool, where it was nice and cool.
    Now there are four green-speckled frogs. (glub, glub).
  3. Continue the song until the last frog has leaped from the "log."

Have leapfrog races. Use the frog song on the Hap Palmer "Pretend" album.
Instruct the children to leap like a frog to the appointed finish line. Specify that
they must leap like a frog or they will have to start over again.

Instructions

1. First thing in the morning, sit in a circle and sing the following to the tune of
"Where Is Thumbkin?"
"Where is (child's name)? Where is (child's name)?"
2. The child whose name is called stands and sings, "Here I am. Here I am."
3. Then the group sings, "How are you today, Sir (or Ma'am)? How are you
today, Sir (or Ma'am)?"
4. The child sings, "Very well, I thank you. Very well, I thank you."
5. Then the group replies, "Have a happy day. Have a happy day."
6. The child sits back down in the group. Repeat the song until each child has
had a turn.

Ask each child to hold up a large card with his name on it when you call his
name. This will help each child recognize the names of all the children.
