Instructions

1. Write the numbers 0 through 9 on file cards (one number per card). You may wish to make several sets of these cards.

2. Gather a group of about four children around you at a small table.

3. Display a set of the number cards on the table in front of the children. Ask them if they know what the symbols are. Can they name the numbers?4. Ask the children, either one at a time or as a group, to find number matches within the room (for example, on boxes, chalkboards, pieces of paper, blocks, and so on).

5. Once they have found a match, encourage them to share what they found with the rest of the group. Ask if they know what the number is used for (price tag, the object's weight, and so on).

6. Let the children exchange numbers and then try to find something different.
