What to do

1. Sing the song "Here Sits a Monkey" by Raffi (Corner Grocery Store) and play this game to go along with it.

2. Put a chair in the middle of the circle and choose one child to be the "monkey." When the song says, "Rise up on your feet, greet the first you meet," the "monkey" shakes hands with a friend, who becomes the next monkey.

3. This is a great end-of-the-day transition as each "monkey" is finished, she goes to her cubby and gets her backpack to prepare for the end of the day and departure. This discourages running to the cubbies and helps avoid confusion.

4. Once they learn the song, you will have to do it again and again to satisfy all the "monkeys!"
