Materials

Tweezers, one per child

Construction paper

Tempera paint in assorted colors

Shallow paint trays

Cotton balls

Instructions

What to do
1. Provide the children with tweezers and paper.
2. Pour the paint into trays and set some cotton balls on the table.
3. Have the children pick up a cotton ball with tweezers, then dip the cotton in the paint and dab
color on their paper. Encourage the children to paint a picture using this technique.
4. Remind the children to use a new cotton ball when they switch to a new color or when the old
ball is saturated; suggest that the children leave the cotton balls on their paper for an interesting
effect.

Dramatic play: Set up the play area as a doctor's or veterinarian's office.
Games: Transfer small objects from one container to another using tweezers; do the same with
larger objects using tongs and chopsticks.
More art: Use toothbrushes, cotton-tipped swabs, and other materials to paint.
