Materials

paperscissorstapeclean, plastic fruit or vegetable tray (from grocery store)cotton ballsspring-type clothespins

Instructions

1. Cut out the numerals 1 to 10 from paper. Tape one numeral in each divided section of the plastic tray. You may want to use two trays and tape 1 to 5 in one tray and 6 to 10 in the other tray (depending on the number of sections).

2. Put the tray on a table with a bunch of cotton balls and a few clothespins.

3. Ask the children to place the correct number of cotton balls in each section of the tray by picking them up with the clothespins.

4. If desired, label the cotton balls depending on your theme. For example, they can be "clouds" for a weather theme, "snowballs" for a winter theme, or "marshmallows" for a food theme. This provides a great opportunity to bring this activity out many times during the year for children to practice counting and using fine motor skills.
