A-B-C Clean

Ready

  • This cleanup activity provides practice with letter recognition!
  • It will be helpful to have the alphabet posted where all the children can see it.

Set

  • Explain the rules of this clean-up game.
  • Tell the children that you will point to a letter and ask them to pick up only items beginning with that letter.

Go

  • Point to a letter on a posted alphabet.
  • Ask the children to pick up only items beginning with that letter.
  • Even if there are no items for a certain letter, point to it anyway and let the children determine whether or not there is an appropriate item.

Note: If the children are not sufficiently familiar with the alphabet, you may want to assign the letters in order, or say the letter as you point to it. Or, ask the children to pick upitems that rhyme with a certain word. For example, ask them to pick up items that rhyme with the word "sock."
